BIO
García-Franco is a visual artist. She was born in La Almunia de Doña Godina (Zaragoza) in 1962 and has lived in Madrid since 1983.
Her relationship with painting began in childhood. Throughout the different stages of her life, painting has remained a constant. She understands being an artist as a way of being in the world, and painting as the language through which she observes, questions and transforms reality.
After an initial period of her life away from formal artistic training, she returned decisively to painting and graduated in Fine Arts from the Complutense University of Madrid in 2000. She began exhibiting in 1997 and, from 2006 onwards, developed a more sustained exhibition practice, with solo and group exhibitions and participation in contemporary art fairs in Spain and other countries.
Her career has developed between Madrid and Mexico, where she maintained a studio for a period of her life and established links with galleries in Mexico City, including Galería Oscar Román and Galería Arte XXI. From Mexico, she travelled frequently to different countries in Ibero-America.
Her work has been presented in Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao, Marbella, Vitoria, Bolzano, Beijing and Mexico City, among other places, and is held in private collections in Spain, the United States, Mexico, Colombia, Guatemala, Germany, the United Kingdom and South Africa.
Since 2023, she has entered a new phase of reassessment and expansion in her practice. Painting remains at the core of her work, but it is also the starting point for processes that explore its relationship with space, the digital image, movement, video and generative processes. This research has given rise to strands such as Living Work and Expanded Art, which explore different possibilities for extending painting beyond its physical boundaries.
